‘SNL’: Pete Davidson Returns for David Harbour’s ‘Stranger Things’ Monologue (Watch)
After starting with a cucumber-cool monologue, Murphy dialed his vigor right back up to his heyday as a sketch performer. It was a strange moment of introspection in an evening of goofy laughs. But it also suggested, perhaps unfairly, that his sketch days were behind him, that he could no longer harness the intense energy that had made him such a unique comedy star decades before. But his mood was offset by the guest appearances of Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Tracy Morgan, who gathered with Murphy onstage to soak in the excitement of his return and to acknowledge his influence on their careers.
Simpson has gone on any blind dates since his release from prison. But this hilarious sketch gives us an idea of how awkward that could be. Fun.
Unlike the cold open, writers invested in this minute whopper of a sketch. She pouts, leaves, and then dad loses it. Dad in particular spouts lots of carefully crafted specifics that show off the quality of the writing. While beginning his address, Ferrell notices a man who looks a lot like Ryan Reynolds in the front row. It is, in fact, Ryan Reynolds, which sends Ferrell into a freaky teenage tizzy.
Ferrell completely sells it, squirming and seducing and mooning over Reynolds, and he gets a solid assist from Reynolds as the straight man. If there are to be cameos, SNL ought to diminish their frequency and give each one this sort of attention. He gets all his opinions from Fox — an actual fox — and hopes the leader can build a wall to keep out illegal settlers. Then everyone bonds over corn in their stool.
This pop jam takes the teens from planning stages to the night of the party, where all relevant social cliques are represented — and also, the AP English teacher Mr. B Ferrell is there. This sketch is a fun take on the carefree party anthem, and while the awkward situation is not perfectly universal, everyone knows that lingering, inappropriate partygoer. When the audience gets rattled, Wally takes Chippy off his hand — only to slather it up with Vaseline and get ready for one last offense.

LaToya Ferguson. Neither of those things happens this time, which ultimately says a lot about how the episode ends up. And now for something completely different. Yeah, that gets lost in all the… Andrew Dice Clay maybe? This sketch has two great moments: 1. This is a Bryant and McKinnon-heavy episode, though if you need to choose one over the other, Bryant is the one who absolutely steals the show.
When strict social distancing efforts were put in place to combat the coronavirus, it looked as though Saturday Night Live’s 45th season had.
Late-night hosts have taken to anchoring their respective shows from home, and the results have been at times awkward, at times moving — and yes, at times funny, albeit in a different way than usual. For that reason, it was hard to know what to expect when Saturday Night Live announced it would return for a special, remote episode on 11 April. It began with a bang, announcing a freshly-recovered-from-coronavirus Tom Hanks as a surprise host, with Chris Martin joining as a musical guest.
The opening credits, too, got a facelift — while cast members are usually shown at famous New York City spots, this time around, they were seen performing mundane tasks such as watering their plants or eating cereal from their own homes stars are just like us! What else? Michael Che delivered an emotional, yet witty tribute to his late grandmother , who recently died of coronavirus.
After telling Jost, his co-host, that returning to work with him had brightened his mood, he told him that his grandmother would have loved for them to engage in a joke swap. That was the case on Saturday night, and after the fact, Che gleefully told his co-star that his grandmother has, in truth, never watched the show, and that he simply wanted a chance to make him read a zinger of his choosing out loud.
Also on a solemn note, the cast — including former SNL stars such as Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph — paid tribute to music producer Hal Willner , a longtime staffer on the show who died a few days before the show aired. By acknowledging the gravity of our times, as well as poking fun of quarantine culture in all the right ways, SNL managed to provide a much-needed moment of levity on Saturday night. I for one hope the show returns for more remote instalments as long as lockdown continues.
The Trump era has already given the world its share of hard-to-believe events. While the current White House has certainly provided the necessary fodder to help NBC’s comedy powerhouse earn can’t-miss-TV status, even the nonpolitical sketches have felt sharper. Please re-enjoy:. Episode date: January 14 “Now more than ever, artists must speak truth to power. Jarring and insane answers, but answers nonetheless.
Saturday Night Live joked about the Coronavirus outbreak this week. Things kept getting more and more awkward as the situation escalated.
It was clear that both Driver and the SNL cast were fueled with humor because his return was a balanced mix of his chill personality and belly laughing sketches. Here are our favorites from the night. The SNL monologue always comes first, and it really seems to set the tone for how the show will go. The idea is they want to hang out with their ladies, played by musical guest Halsey, Heidi Gardner, and Ego Nwodim and try and serenade them as they walk towards them.
Any time he gets to play on his role in the Star Wars franchise is gold, but this skit that adds humor to the universe is a great way to bring it into SNL-land without feeling too forced. Another hit episode for Driver and a great one to ring in the new season of the show. He seemed so much more comfortable up on the stage and nailed everything—whether he was asked to sing, be awkward, silly, or serious. Parenting during a pandemic is hard.

For every host who knocks it out of the park, such as Alec Baldwin and Tom Hanks, there are hosts who totally bomb on the program.

Saturday Night Live Season 45 has now come to an end with a virtually produced finale that aired on Saturday, May 9. SNL ‘s last live show aired on March 7. The series was scheduled to air a new episode with John Krasinski as host on March 28 but was put on indefinite hiatus amid the pandemic. My favorite SNL skits.
The origin of the Digital Shorts brand is credited to staff writer Adam McKay , who created content for the show in collaboration with SNL hosts, writers, and cast members. The popularity of these segments exploded following the addition of The Lonely Island Jorma Taccone , Akiva Schaffer , and Andy Samberg to the show, and it is to them that credit is given for ushering SNL “into the age of digital online content in a time when it needed to tap into that relevance more than ever.
The shorts generally took fewer than five days to complete. Taccone also has produced music for the shorts as necessary, along with his brother, Asa.

Saturday Night Live joked about the Coronavirus outbreak this week. An announcer came on before a soap opera parody and warned the audience that due to the virus none of the actors could touch each other. The melodrama was absolutely hysterical with Kate McKinnon and host Daniel Craig doing their best version of a strange telenovela.
For some reason, the Bond actor had a parakeet and McKinnon oozed that manic persona that comes from her best pop cultural bits. Things kept getting more and more awkward as the situation escalated further and further into madness. At one point, a character decides to cover themselves in food plastic wrap. In another silly moment, instead of a hug or a handshake, two characters pull off an intricate kicking dance. McKinnon pulled double duty as both Ingraham and Warren at the end of the sketch.
There have been a ton of political sketches this season and the writers keep trying to push the envelope further. ‘SNL’ imagines what Colton Underwood’s run on ‘The Bachelor’ will look like
Saturday Night Live has aired thousands of sketches during its plus years on the air. It’s hard work turning out 90 minutes of live, original comedy, and the quality is naturally going to vary. Some of those bits have stood the test of time and become classics, while others have become memorable because they were so ill-conceived. There’s also the matter of taste—one person’s all-time great is another’s trash.
In no particular order, here are 12 of the very best sketches to ever air on SNL
Colin Jost handled a potentially awkward situation like a pro. In the skit, cast member Alex Moffat played the wealthy, overly confident and clueless recurring character After splitting in , Johansson began dating Jost.
While the “Twilight” actress shined in most of her pieces, the night was full of uneven sketches, with some even bordering on the uncomfortable. Following Chance the Rapper was an incredibly tough act to follow, but Kristen Stewart did a pretty solid job in her second time hosting “Saturday Night Live. Although the “Charlie’s Angels” star started off a little rocky with a rather lackluster monologue — despite a funny appearance from Pete Davidson — Stewart came out swinging with some hilarious sketches that utilized the actress’ infamous awkwardness.
While the “Twilight” actress shined in most of her pieces, the night was full of uneven sketches, some even bordering on the uncomfortable. However, there were still some standout moments. The piece featured Stewart, Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant as factory workers who are willing to do whatever it takes to inspire the troops — even if that means flashing a little something. As usual, we’re ranking all the sketches from worst to first, including the Monologue, Cold Open, “Weekend Update” and any sketches that were cut for time but made their way online.
